Trailers 2012: J. Edgar

During his lifetime, J. Edgar Hoover (Leonardo DiCaprio) would become the most powerful man in America. As director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), for almost 50 years, did anything to protect his country.

He exercised his office during three wars and the mandates of eight presidents. Hoover fought their battles against threats, sometimes real and sometimes only perceived and often forced the rules that ensure the safety of their fellow citizens. His methods were often heroic and sometimes ruthless, but the coveted reward of admiration was always elusive.

Hoover was a man who valued secrets, especially those of the others and had no qualms about using that information to exercise its power over politicians and leaders of the nation. He was aware that information is power and fear provides the opportunity, used both and gained unprecedented influence, forging a reputation as tremendous as untouchable.

He was so cautious in his private life as it was in his public life, allowing only around a small circle of trust. Clyde Tolson (Armie Hammer), his closest colleague, was also his inseparable companion. Helen Gandy (Naomi Watts), his secretary, who was possibly the great expert of its purposes; loyal to the end ... and beyond. Only his mother (Judi Dench), who was always his inspiration and his conscience, leave him. His death was a real blow to the son who always sought his love and approval.
