Tizi Remote App Brings Siri Voice Control To TV

While everyone is buzzing about Siri voice controlled TV sets coming from Apple, Tizi, the Digital TV receiver that streams TV to the iPad 2, has beaten Apple and got their voice controlled TV remote app launched first.

The Tizi system is a hardware TV receiver that plugs into the iPad 2 and receives digital TV (DTT/DVB-T) singals using it’s built-in antenna. The dongle is currently available in European Countries including Germany, France, UK and Spain.

The new tizi Remote app lets users make use of the iPhone 4S and lets users change and browse channels, pause and rewind live TV etc., but it also makes use of Siri functionality.

Using the Apple iPhone 4S app and using the power of your voice, viewers can change channels and do other voice controlled tomfoolery.

Voice control is starting to make appearances in the TV market with LG launching a voice controlled version of their magic remote.

The system is not available in the US at this time, you need a new iPad and a new iPhone to use it too, which narrows down the market for this system.

And many people may question why you would need a remote to control an iPad that is in your hands at the time your watching it!

But it is interesting to see more manufacturers make use of voice control which looks to be the next big development in TV control. The app can be downloaded free from the Apple iTunes App Store right now.

Boxee See Internet TV Moving Away From The Computer To Mobile And Connected TV

Boxee see the future of internet TV, and the computer which began it all, is not part of that future. In fact, their latest release v.1.5 will be the last that supports the native PC.

It seems that the future will be on mobile devices and via connected TV. The company say that the future of digital TV is changing, and of course it is. But it does seem a bit premature to isolate the PC audience as many see the PC as an essential portal into the TV online world.

Speaking about the move, Boxee said in a blog posting:-

“While there are still many users who have computers connected to their TVs, we believe this use case is likely to decline as users find better alternatives. People will continue to watch a lot of video on their computer, but it is more likely to be a laptop than a home-theater PC and probably through a browser rather than downloaded software.”

Boxee see the future of internet TV coming from connected devices and mobile tablets and smartphones. They say:-

“We believe the future of TV will be driven by devices such as the Boxee Box, Connected TVs / Blu-Rays and 2nd screen devices such as tablets and phones.”

So the 1.5 release will be the last version that is available for PC, the Mac and Ubuntu. It can be downloaded via Boxee.tv until the end of January 2012.

The news has not gone down well with the PC community that supported and promoted the service from it’s early days though. A quick look at the blog posting comments shows some real anger as hundreds of loyal users show their reaction to the news.

Comments include, “And that’s the end of Boxee.” , “Thanks for keeping your promise, but I will not support a company that drops the community which gave it their support first.” , “Not impressed boxee. Another startup that was dedicated to the community has taken to making a quick penny by selling their devices. As a boxee user for years now, I am disappointed with this news.”

The good news for PC owners is that the Boxee software is open source and a modification of the XBMC media player. USers can download and modify the source code for the Boxee software release up to v. 1.5.

So the chances are that the software will continue to be developed, just not by Boxee.

YouTube Throw Down The Challenge With Slam Feature

Videos on YouTube will now be chosen to directly compete against each other as the site implements a new feature that could become a potential launching pad for the next generation of ’viral’ clips.

YouTube Slam’ will regularly update their options in a number of categories (including ‘comedy’, ’cute’, and ‘bizzare’) which will appear on-screen at the same time to give viewers the option of looking at and voting for a clip without having to leave the page, with the winning videos put on an all-time ‘slam’ leaderboard.

The official YouTube blog said of the service, which was released ear ”Each week a new crop of videos battles head-to-head in Comedy, Cute, Music, Bizarre and Dance Slams, where your votes determine who wins the Slam and gets featured on the leaderboard. Earn points for predicting the crowd favourites, and see how you stack up against other players at the end of each week. Get your daily dose of the most talented, hilarious, adorable or weird videos on YouTube, and you could help uncover the next big thing.”

It is believed that the feature has been developed as a measure to safeguard the site’s status of being the Internet’s number one destination for video clips, as independent digital media analyst Mark Mulligan explained: “YouTube is in a process of reinvention at the moment – Vevo is basically taking all of the music videos away from them.

YouTube desperately need to create a new relevancy for themselves, and that’s why with the recent site relaunch – making it look more like a rich, interactive TV-like experience – and features like Slam are all about trying to give YouTube a unique place in the online video landscape.”

With a range of videos set to get a chance in the spotlight, will the viewers be entertained by the new feature, will the clips manage to use this new method of promotion well, and will it keep the site itself flying high into 2012?

Are Apple Set To Launch Two New iPads As Google Plan Killer Tablet?

Apple to have the tablet market pretty much all to themselves since launching the iPad. But it seems that news of a Google tablet that will blow the iPad away have made the Cuprenol company nervous. So much so that are are said to be planning to launch two new iPads in January.

Google have always played second fiddle to Apple even though their Android software is in countless smartphones and tablets, but in a recent interview made in Italy, Google exec Eric Schmidt discussed plans to market “a tablet of the highest quality.”

That tablet would be running on the latest incarnation of Android OS which many claim is getting as good as the Apple iOS.

In response a report reaches us that Apple will be launching more in the iPad range in January 2012 at the iWorld event. This is according to sources within Apple’s supply chain partners.

It is said that the new models will be available along with iPad 2, giving an entry level tablet, mid-range and high end version. It is also rumored that the iPad 2 will get a price reduction in the process.

This will leave the iPad 2 in straight competition with the highly rated Amazon kindle Fire in the low end tablet market. Of course this is all rumor and speculation, but you can bet that Google have been beavering away to try and take the market from Apple as tablet’s have proven such a success with the public.

Apple are making no official comments, but next year will be interesting. Maybe as early as January.

'Transformers 3' was the queen of rabbit 2011

As every year around this time, several websites are responsible for the colors to make the Colossi of the film industry by launching the ranking of the films with more gaffes.

Transformers 3 is in this 2011 film that has the dubious honor of leading this black list.

Errors in historical context, props that comes and goes or dresses that do not get dirty are some of the most remarkable and picturesque failure of the third adventure of Optimus Prime and his Autobots that has the not inconsiderable mark 58 rabbits in the 154 minutes

Among the blunders that highlighted the Internet is a layer in an early scene looks the female lead, the imposing Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and disappears in a magical way to change plans. Also discussed is the fact that her dress wearing a beautiful white continue nuclear after crawling on the floor and escape of dozens of explosions.

Although the error may be most notable film directed by Michael Bay, a real blockbuster that exceeded 1,000 billion, is the appearance in the film flashbacks Observatory Very Large Array. The timeline of the film takes us to 1961, when New Mexico observatory building was not started until 1978.

Treacherous Microphones

The silver medal is for Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz with the fourth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean. The Last Voyage of Captain Jack Sparrow accumulated 52 miscues in its 141 minutes. The bronze medal is for X-Men: First generation, the prequel to the Marvel mutants accumulating 30 faults in 130 minutes of footage. These include the scene where, in a helmet, the microphone is reflected holding a team member shooting.

Fourth place ribbons more blockbuster blunders is another billionaire. This is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part II, the end of the highest grossing franchise in movie history to accumulate a total of 20 errors. Super 8 is followed by Steven Spielberg (with 8 rabbits), Captain America (with 16 failures) and the extraterrestrial comedy Paul (with 14 faults).

They close the blunders of 2011 ranking of the fourth installment and the sequel Scream Hangover (both with 11 rabbits) and The Mechanic, the action movie starring Jason Statham (with 10 errors).

Prepare a remake of the first "Metal Gear Solid '

Following the launch of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, the absence of a high definition version of the first installment of the series has raised questions among fans, that Hideo Kojima, the creator of the series, was quick to respond.

"There are many people who want to do a remake of the original, and as a producer I want to respond to such requests," said Kojima. "But as a creator I'm not interested in going back.

If we were to do it, should be a total remake, the only thing that might as well be the story. If it occurs at some point would be the producer, but would leave out most of the things I'm currently creating. "

"If you bring the gameplay to modern standards, then you lose part of the original game. It was a game made for a particular time, not only history, but the controls and everything else reflect the time which made the game" . He also mentioned that the first Metal Gear Solid game resulted wanted to do back then.

Star Wars: The Old Republic for PC

After a long period of development over there is an eternal fact, Star Wars: The Old Republic is finally among us.

Electronic Arts and BioWare risking a lot with this project, which aim to unseat World of Warcraft in his impregnable throne, or at least make you shiver. Not surprisingly, according to rumors it could be the most expensive video game history, and that point could have cost over $ 135 million (105 million euros).

There are few doubts that have arisen over its development. Along with the great expectations that have risen, too many voices have spoken out against him, accusing him of being a mere copy of Blizzard's MMO and predicting a dismal failure.

Despite all this, its launch has not been able to produce at a better time, with World of Warcraft through lower their hours after seven-year reign, something not achieved its latest update to remedy.

But we're here to talk about Star Wars: The Old Republic, and we can tell right away that this is a great game with a very promising future ahead, if it does not revolutionize the genre, manages to take a step forward in terms of narrative concerns, offering much more than a game where you just go up levels, as unfortunately often happens.

The endless battle between the Republic and the Empire

We are 300 years after the events in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, one of the most beloved titles BioWare and where the study has already demonstrated his mastery of this popular universe. That game had a sequel developed by Obsidian, so that we are dealing with can be considered as the long-awaited third installment and desired that never came.

In fact, there are few hints that we are, something that the fans enjoy so much and help them understand a lot better plot development. Of course, this does not mean that otherwise we will not fully enjoy.

This is possible thanks to the Codex, a sort of virtual encyclopedia that will collect all data about the characters we meet, monsters, planets, etc..

The story gives rise to the game, to put it very briefly, is that after a long period of peace and truce, the Sith return and return to attack, so that conflicts between the Empire and the Republic happen again. However, this simply serves as a backdrop to contextualize the situation in which we move, because depending on the class you choose, we will experience a completely different story than the rest.

As we have seen, the plot development of these is sensational, as we are accustomed in BioWare.

In our case, we have deepened especially in the Jedi Knight and have been enjoying with unexpected plot twists truly memorable moments thought to be unthinkable today in a game with these features and a compelling story that goes from less to more and that has got us squarely in the skin of our character, with a truly epic final stretch.

Although this is just the tip of the iceberg, as each planet has its own main plot, which happen to be a small story arcs that will give much more meaning to our journey through different worlds and they get a lot of give coherence to global .

It has lots of care and commitment to faithfully recreate the time period in the history of Star Wars, so we remind you that we are in the Old Republic, so do not expect to see planets like Endor Ewoks and famous who live there, and not yet been discovered.

To develop all these stories, the title has a very similar conversation to that seen in Mass Effect 2, with a wheel with different answers we can give, what will change slightly as we meet the characters (or sometimes not even that ). Of course, the answers are really important that we make decisions we do that will affect what happens next and that will give us points or light side or dark side.

Although we liked this system, we find very little exploited and still needs serious tweaks. This is mainly because the game always encourages us to take one of two poles, because the more we move in one of the two, the more rewards we get, so that at no point is awarded to maintain a neutral stance or go forging our own morality and be acting according to what we think is good and what we think is wrong. We can even find active by default, an option that allows us to see what kind of points we give each option.

To make things easier still, the first option is usually good, the second one neutral and the third is bad. Although sometimes this order is not maintained, it does as a rule we always pressing the same button because of their position and know which is which.

This ruins many moments that have arisen around this another way, we have put in quite complicated situations, as there are certain decisions that will face real moral dilemmas that will make us not be too clear what should take. For example, there was a moment in which we had to end the threat of a missile and we had two options.

On the one hand we could send them to an imperial fleet, or else send them to a deserted asteroid. Maybe to us that we were Jedi the decision was clear, as our code, we do respect life and try to prevent unnecessary deaths, but for a Trooper to fight to defend the Republic and the Empire end decision will not appear as clear as destroying the fleet may be avoiding a much greater evil while striking a blow to the enemy.

There are also very few moments where some coherence is lost, as to send us to a cave to stop a Sith, we have to kill many people to get to it and once we find it, your character says " I came to talk, no need to fight, we can resolve this peacefully and do not want to kill anybody. "

But as I say, these situations are very specific and are not at all common. On request, otherwise we would have liked is that according to our actions could end up going to the other side in some way, becoming for example if we are a Sith Jedi constantly falling on the dark side because it does not make much sense to continue to belong the Order if we dedicate ourselves to be cruel and kill free to all that put us ahead.

Turning now to what amounts to the gameplay, the game follows the pattern blindly marked by World of Warcraft and other exponents of the genre.

We know that comparisons are odious, but they will seldom have to resort to giant Blizzard given the strong parallels between the two in more ways than one. Therefore, the first thing we do is choose a server and create our character.

The editor may not be the most comprehensive we've seen so far, but at least allow us to distinguish our virtual avatar enough to not be like the other players. We will have many breeds to choose from depending on the type and faction, and although they could have included many more, the initial number is more than satisfactory.

Among the classes available we are four in each faction, and subsequently divided into two each as the advanced class we choose. On the one hand, in the Republic we have the Jedi Knight, which then become Guardian or Sentinel.

The first pearls will come to us if we seek to fulfill the role of tank, ie the charge to attract the attention of enemies to stick it to him and to resist their attacks, while the second option we will use two lightsabers to do much damage. Her classes are equivalent in the Empire which belong to the Sith Warrior and Marauder Juggernaut respectively.

On the other hand we have the Jedi Consular, which have the option of taking or Sage Shadow. The Shadow uses a double lightsaber like Darth Maul in Episode I, can become invisible and you can choose to specialize in dealing damage or tanking because of its elusive, despite the use of light armor.

The Sage in turn, can use force powers for devastating magic attacks from a distance, or can arrange to heal their allies to keep the party alive. Classes belonging to the Sith Inquisitor (Assassin and Sorcerer) would be equivalent to those in the Empire.

Following the classes, we find the Trooper, which pass options into Vanguard or Commando. The Vanguard is especially useful for tanking.

Despite using rifles, this is primarily a melee class. On the other hand, the Commando can perform ranged damage or healing. The counterpart of these classes in the empire is found in the Bounty Hunter, you can choose as specialization between Powertech and Mercenary respectively.

Finally we have the Smuggler (Imperial Agent imperial equivalent), the ideal class for those who want to emulate the legendary Han Solo. Gunslinger can be made to perform much damage or against a Scoundrel, with which to adapt to all situations with the ability to become invisible at the same time can really hurt and heal. Respective classes in the Empire would be the Sniper and the Operative.

To get to specialize in one of these advanced classes, we need to first go to level 10, at which time they will give us a mission which will explain what each one of two specializations, where they will take a long look at each one of them.

This moment is quite important, as decided by the role of our character groups and our style of play. Once we have chosen can not change at any time, so what I recommend you calmly toméis to make sure that expertise is what you really want.

Once we have completed this first step and we are in a position, we move forward between videos and conversations to get missions that will have to meet to gain experience and level up and go. These are divided into several types.

On the one hand we have the class missions, which are individual assignments will be telling us the history of our character and will allow us to advance in the game, which become mandatory and we have to make yes or yes.

On the other hand, we have the side missions, which may well be of lower orders without much relevance as complex storylines related to the main plot of the planet on which we meet. The interesting thing about them is that almost all, however minor they may seem, we will take a number of moral decisions, which will vary the outcome of the same in either direction.

But it does not stop here, since we also heroic missions generally require us being in a group to complete due to their difficulty and we can repeat once a day. A very interesting novelty is found that in almost all the missions we do, we will find additional targets, which will give us extra experience if completed and kill enemies that will make it less heavy, as many of them are related to end the monsters in the area.

A nice addition completely optional and getting to liven things become targets advantage of these barriers that usually be seen as a waste of time for delays in our work.

The development of the missions is often something generic and objectives with which we will not go much beyond a certain number of enemies killed, collect a certain number of objects or to get from point A to point B. However, they also surprised us with some very bright potential missions and we hope to see more in the future.

For example, in one of them had to activate a giant cannon and had to return this energy. To perform this task, in the nine pillars we find connected with each other. If we played one, those who were directly connected with that went out or lit, whichever is the earlier state, so our goal was to make the nine were fired at once.

It was a very gratifying surprise to find a puzzle in a game of this genre and it also forces us to think under pressure to solve, since the area was full of enemies that kept reappearing.

As a discordant note in this regard, we also find the minigame spacecraft, a novel, which is added a breath of fresh air to the usual routine in which we will be involved. Basically it's a mini game which we must overcome style missions to Star Fox

The screen will go forward alone and do away with the goals we mark, while avoiding all obstacles. We shoot with our blasters or against using missiles (limited capacity). To make things easier, we can customize our ship equipped with various pieces to make it more resilient, more powerful, and so on. In addition, we also equipped with usable objects to give us certain benefits when activated.

These missions are entirely optional, though we reward you with a wealth of experience and are daily, so we simply invest in them about 20 minutes a day. They are not difficult, although we will require some improvements to the ship and some practice to get the hang of finish.

Speaking of missions, we have to take a moment to discuss datacrones. These are some blocks that are hidden by the various planets, and improve the statistics we added new lines constantly and our codex. They emit a bright and distinctive sound, so we must use all our senses to find them.

Sometimes we see with the naked eye in seemingly inaccessible places, so we'll have to rack their brains and ingenuity to reach them, and sometimes are found in secret areas that cost us a lot to discover. Pick up all can become a daunting task indeed if we decide to do without a guide and will take a lot of hours of searching and browsing.

Turning now to what is the combat system, this will be really familiar. Bars have several boxes in which to place our skills. Each box can assign a key or key combination to activate them without having to use the mouse for it.

There are no auto-attack, so we'll be constantly pressing buttons in the fighting. We meet all kinds of skills: control, healing, damage to generate threat (or whatever it is, to call the attention of the enemy toward us), area, pipe, load time, and so on.

These generally tend to have a cooldown once the use and according to which we may ask for one thing or another. For example, some Jedi Knight skills not cost us anything and we will focus, which is what would later use to perform other more powerful skills, while on the other hand the skills of Trooper spent ammunition, which will force us to go carefully controlling and the sooner the regenerate spend more slowly.

This rate of regeneration of ammunition will indicate by arrows next to the bar itself. The less arrows, regenerate slower.

The fight despite being very similar to other games (in fact, many of the skills are exactly the same), it is very fun, dynamic and fast, which makes it work.

In addition, as a rule have to use many more buttons than usual to perform complete rotations of our skills and maximize performance of our character, which makes the classes are easy to play but difficult to master

These missions are entirely optional, though we reward you with a wealth of experience and are daily, so we simply invest in them about 20 minutes a day. They are not difficult, although we will require some improvements to the ship and some practice to get the hang of finish.
